Diabetic Parenting

Very few people describe the journey of diabetes for the parent. It is usually surrounding the child with the diabetes. I would argue though that diabetes doesn’t just join the child, it joins the entire family as a new member. For at least the first few years after diagnosis, it pretty much dictates the flow of family activities, much like a new born baby, until regulation is acheived within reason. Sleeping through the night without a feeding, sleeping through the night without a high number, sleeping through the night without a mishap becomes like the baby sleeping through the night. You wake up and wonder, did I get up last night? Laughing but true, love the baby and it will love you back. Welcome your new family member. #diabetes #diabeticparenting
